In the event of a claim, then the first and best place for the client to call in almost every instance is your local broker during office opening hours, or, failing that, call TEn on 01296 390 800.

Once a claim is logged, generally speaking, we should also be doing the chasing on your behalf.  In some cases however, such as Household insurance, once your broker has been informed, it is best that the client then speaks directly to the insurer, because that is how their systems work best.

Some of our commercial clients will have purchased Loss Adjuster Fee Insurance from a company called LOREGA, which applies to the property element of a risk. If you have such a policy, then the first port of call should be the LOREGA 24/7 helpline, because they will dispatch a Loss Adjuster to you premises immediately, to assess the scale of the loss and to represent your interests in advance of the main insurer becoming involved.

The cost of this additional cover is based on the property element of the risk and it is never so much as to discourage its inclusion. To some extent, it may seem to the client that this is a type of insurance that protects against the inadequacies of the main insurer that has been recommended and/or the ability of your broker to motivate the main insurer on the client's behalf.

There can be some validity in this perception, except that in the real world, the client's business will more rapidly recover from the destruction of their premises if this cover is in place.  On the whole, the larger the premises, then the more essential is this type of cover.  Certainly any business that takes seriously Disaster Recovery planning should consider this type of insurance.
